The CEO Of Your Life

I’ve been all about this topic ever since I recently hit a milestone age.  I literally had to take stock and look at my overall health and start to invest in it.  I think we all can agree that as we get older, we tend to slow down or become too complacent with our daily routines.  It really doesn’t have to be that way and there are so many small changes you can make that can make such a HUGE difference in your overall health.

I would say that your health is a business or a company or even stock you want to invest in.  It’s something that is going to be around for a lifetime and has potential for longevity.  Your platform, so to speak!  Something that you would invest in that you can get a solid return back on.  Devote some quality time in putting in THE WORK!  Build your foundation and get your doctor recommended 60 to 90 minutes of exercise a day.  Set yourself a schedule.  Be your own boss.  Create a design that is right for you where you can get that allotted amount of time you need.  The return on it would be a stronger cardiovascular system and just an overall appearance in your attitude, energy and weight and most importantly, YOUR LIFE!

It also helps to get others to join you in your “company” and become partners!  With the determination and the drive of everyone involved, your stock in your company can elevate.  You health becomes valuable and moreso, your health starts to become priceless.  Also, in the scheme of things, there are those who become your partner that can also dissuade you from your goal.  Those are the ones that you need to demote and send packing.  Meaning their vision has changed and it’s not to the game plan you set out for in the beginning leaving you wondering where did things go wrong on the journey.

Remember, YOU are the CEO!  Only you can grow your “company”!  The reward will be the most precious thing that no one can take away from you and that is YOUR LIFE.

Nothing Says Lovin’ Like Partying In A Whole Foods Parking Lot

Day 2 of 365 – #ThinkAbundantly

Yesterday, I hosted my first ever CARDIO PARTY by myself and didn’t collaborate with anyone.  I have to be honest with you.  I thought that it was going to be a flop and that no one was going to show up and I was going to be dancing ALONE at my own cardio event for New Year’s Day.  Already a majority of my friends were excited about going to other events around town so I didn’t let it bother me much.  I came dangerously close to just canceling it altogether and just joining the in-crowd and finding the sure thing.  It really was something that I feared when I hosted this event, but I laid to rest the anxiety and hushed that little voice in my head that said, “LOSER!” and just put this thing together.  Not only did I do this event for others, but also I did it to prove to myself that I didn’t need to blend into something and wanted to stand out because I had something unique and I had something to offer.

The night before (New Year’s Eve) I stayed home and ran through my checklist of things I wanted to do for this event (even though the confidence level was so low about it).  Did my emails, shot a two-minute video, talked to my parents on the phone, re-checked my playlist and laid out the clothes I was going to wear for the next day event.  Trust me, this process was maddening!

After tossing and turning and waking up all hours of the night, 7:00AM finally arrived and I went to my computer and saw a handful of notifications that I had of people who bought tickets.  It made me feel much better and then I just meticulously went through my morning gathering what I needed for my Cardio Event and went over to the studio 90 minutes early to be exact.  Got there and practiced my two new songs that I put in my mix and then waited for everyone to show up.

It was so refreshing to see a handful of my students who showed up and came to support even some from other studios that I either teach at and/or sub and it was even more amazing that I had an old student and dear friend of mine who I hadn’t seen in nearly six months since she moved to the Westside come over and hug me SO TIGHT and said that she missed me.  After that, I knew that I was ready to rock out.

Seeing those familiar faces and a few new ones made this event so wonderful and the added bonus was to see my dance cardio partner-in-crime, Tanita, walk into that door like she said she would to come and support.  Major props on finding people who are true to their word.  I thanked EVERYONE who showed up that day.  They all got a FREE class as well as my gratitude!

I guess what I’m saying is — you never know your true potential until you put it out there in the universe.  You never know what you are capable of doing unless you do it.  You don’t have to “depend” and “expect” on others who don’t see the vision that you have.  Rely on the fact that “YOU ARE ENOUGH!”  I learned that as well in Dr. Nicki J. Monti’s intention setting class after I taught that day.

2015 has endless possibilities.  And I am learning real quick “A closed mouth will not get fed!”  It’s time to start make moves and continuing to #ThinkAbundantly

2015 NEW YEAR’S DAY CARDIO PARTY (“THINK ABUNDANTLY”)

The goal for 2015 is “#THINKABUNDANTLY!”

I’m planning to start 2015 off with a BANG!  And I’m starting the “#ThinkAbundantly” journey with HEALTH!

Over the past 5 years, I’ve taken cardio dance workout classes.  I’ve always been a dancer (in my head and in my soul) for quite some time while working a 9 to 5 desk job, but never have had any formal training or dance experience.  I worked as a part-time volunteer at my local dance studio and transformed myself from student to teacher.

During my 5 year experience, I’ve been certified in Latin Jam Workout, licensed in Zumba Fitness and certified in U-Jam Fitness.  Three unique and revolutionary fitness genres that each have given me discipline, clarity and creativity in ALL avenues of my life.  I still actively teach these exercises in the Los Angeles area and participated in events that has taken me to places throughout Northern and Southern California, Utah, Nevada and even Texas.

The process continues in 2015, the road to “THINKING ABUNDANTLY”!  I’m putting out in the universe my first ever solo Cardio Party on NEW YEARS DAY at Heartbeat House Dance Studio at 11:00AM.  I’ve always collaborated on events with other people because I haven’t trusted or had faith in my own potential.  My ability to stand on my own two feet.

This is not going to be your ordinary Cardio Party.  This is a journey, a story of growth and a story of achieving ABUNDANCE that I am personally sharing with all of you through this 90 minute workout in the hopes that it will inspire you to want to do more for whatever your journey may be.  This will be the event where you can set your intentions for the New Year and claim HEALTH as YOURS!  Come be a part of the #ThinkAbundantly movement and let’s achieve GREATNESS!

Dance Like NOBODY’S Watching

Those of you who REALLY know me, know that I lead an active and CRAZY life!  Sometimes I stretch myself so thin and I give so much to others that I rarely make time for myself.  It’s become quite a concern with some of the people who are close to me in my life.  Recently, I had to cut back on a couple of classes in my schedule due to work commitments and also learning a new fitness that I am feeling passionate about that is pretty much cutting edge.  There are some who don’t understand what I’m doing and there are some that aren’t feeling my journey, but I had to come to the realization is that this journey is NOT theirs to understand, it’s mine to EMBRACE and COMPREHEND.  I’ve made so much concessions for others that I haven’t made any for myself and THAT IS WRONG!

When I entered into the fitness world, I was told that I wasn’t good enough.  I was told that you don’t have “the look”.  I came from an upbringing and a background where the words CAN’T and WON’T are not in the vocabulary.  If you want something bad enough, you go out there and get it and you let no one or any circumstance keep you from achieving what it is that you want.  I find those who have something to say about you and they (themselves) aren’t doing a thing with their life to be very unsettling.  I look up to the doers and the thinkers, the dreamers and the believers and the ones who do nothing but encourage along on the journey.  I, in turn, pay it forward to others!  It’s just that simple.  Give, but don’t expect anything in return!

Recently, so much stress from outside forces such as people whose negativity has entered my orbit to stress from work and also stress from not having enough time to do all the things I want to do to be stifling.  My creativity was definitely in question.  My passion was definitely in question.  When your passion becomes a chore, it’s time to step back and re-evaluate.  I dropped into a friend’s dance class because I whine so much about how I miss being a student and how I miss just being out of my head and not having to think and be ON POINT every single time.  When I did that, it was just the kick in the pants that I needed to understand that I NEEDED this break from the normal.  I NEEDED this time to myself.  I “Danced Like Nobody Was Watching!”  And folks, let me tell you, it re-ignited me like no other.  My focus and mind shifted to a place where I could respect more what I do.

I don’t expect anyone to understand this ramble that’s going on, but guess what…..it’s not meant for anyone to understand!  It’s meant for me!  And in putting this out there in the universe in hopes of gaining clarity!  I am so blessed to be able to bring the best of me when I teach classes and I even more blessed when I can bring myself into what I love to do.  I’m writing again, I’m dancing again, I’m spending quality time with my loved ones, I’m evolving and growing!
